21/07/2010 RACE REPORT - TANART "TOP" FINISHED 11th IN EUROPEAN CHAMPION KF2!

Having raced for the qualification round at PFI track, UK on 2 May 2010, Tanart “Top” Sathienthirakul qualified for the CIK-FIA European Championship in KF2 race in Genk, Belgium on 11 July 2010. The race – to crown the fastest driver in Europe – was as blisteringly hot as in Thailand, with 40 ºC sunny ambient.

As for the race weekend, Top could not find the right carburetor settings on Thursday practice but improved dramatically in Friday practice. However, he dropped to 36th out of 81 starters overall with just 1.1 second difference. He started in Group A from 15th grid spot. He finished 13th for heat 1, but accident in heat 2 relegated him to 31st, finished 11th in heat 3 and finished off flamboyantly in heat 4 when he finished 5th. He managed to just qualify for the pre-final phase with 60 points starting from 32nd, and finished 19th in that race. He finished the finalists' round with 11th.

Despite setting the lap times in the top-ten level frequently in the pre-final and final phases, his shining opportunities were marred by the race starting as it was expected that he might be able to finish in the top-five spots. Still, this should inspiringly provide for the jubilance in Thai karting sport that one of the drivers from Thailand could finished up to 11th in the European's fastest race.

Next up on Top's agenda is the CIK-FIA WORLD KARTING CHAMPIONSHIP KF2 at ZUERA, SPAIN on 19th September. The track with 1700 metres in length and 17 seconds of full throttle out of 61 seconds lap time should provide for one of the most exciting races of this high-rising driver. Let us cross our fingers for him and for Thailand!

Also for this year, CIK-FIA would like to promote the fair-playing-field for drivers with two new World Championship racing categories of U18 and Academy. The regulations are pretty similar to Rotax Max Grand Finals with centrally allocated engines, carburetors and exhaust systems and only 6-7 brands of chassis to be chosen. Each driver is eligible to only one chassis with all standardized equipment. Tires and engines are provided free-of-charge! Many under-15 Asian drivers participate in Academy class. This weekend, Tanart “Top” Sathienthirakul will also race in U18 category at Wackersdorf, Germany. Next month, he will race in Alcaniz, Spain – one of the best tracks in the world, and the final round at Val d' Argenton, France. We will keep our fingers crossed for Top in fighting for the best. With the qualifying practice result of 3rd place in WSK race at Sarno, Italy, let us pray and keep Top's hope high for Thailand!

18/05/2010 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP AND THAILAND OPEN KART PRIX - THE RESOLUTION

The following are open letters from Karting Association of Thailand to the Thailand Open Kart Prix Organizer

To Thailand Open Kart Prix Organizer
It was a great experience joining race with you. But after 2 rounds we found both events losing benefit.  Many drivers wished to participate in both series but they were not able to.  We foresee it would be best if you stand alone from this coming Round 3 onward so that participants will be able to enjoy both events. Therefore KAT will organize Thailand Championship 2010 Round 3 on Sun 4 July 2010 at SC Motorsport.

Sincerely yours
Poonpun Hirunvanijkul
President of Kart Association Thailand
